CNY... Chicken New Year... "pok pok kae"...

wear new clothes, new shoes and new undergarments?

one of my malay friend thought that its a must for all chinese to wear red undergarments every new year for good luck. wah... if thats true, next yr i will set up a store in chinatown selling red undergarments, ya real bright red ones, i'm sure to "haut"...

parents "love" receiving ang pows?

kids love receiving ang pows and parents with lots of kids love to bring their kids around to "receive ang pows". its like using their kids to earn back what they give out to others. sometimes they even "profit" from this. whats more the government is encouraging couples to have kids nowadays. while those smart parents with lesser kids identify places with huge kids gathering and avoid them inorder not to fork out extra ang pows on locations. that doesn't seem like new year to me...

this rooster year is a funny year, everybody felt like being a kid again, cause even my mom received an ang pow from his elder brother, not forgetting my brother who got married last year, many relatives still handed him and his wife ang pows to rush them to have a baby for the next new year. guess thats my mom's wish too, to be a grandmom next new year. okie, at least nobody rush to me to give ang pows for the next new year... thats a new, unlike last new year... haha...

quene up cos i'm giving ang pows...

my brother was "promoted" since last new year... ie he got married, finally a grown up he said. he was so happy to give ang pows to all the kids around, even though not many of the kids knew who he really was, all of them just called him uncle, shu shu. giving ang pows is the hi-light of the day when we go visiting, so many kids around this year, guess the incentives by the government on child birth really went well huh. the elders have to "organise" the kids into long quenes or in formations to hand them their ang pows, sometimes you just have to wonder if kids learn to quene for hello kitty from chinese new year...

while kids quene for ang pows, adults quene for toto and 4D...

gambling... mahjong, blackjack, toto, 4D, you name it, you have it.

just dun understand how come chinese like to gamble. yes, guess its only chinese that loves to gamble to the core. why do chinese have to gamble during the new year when they meetup at relatives house? even it goes for the younger generations, when they visit their friends during new year, its to gamble, mahjong, blackjack, is there really nothing better to do? maybe all the "pong", "kong", "washing", slaming of mahjong tiles that makes new year more noisy and more happening. not forgetting toto and 4D, special and additional prizes are even added for the chinese new year for people to win big for the coming year. ya maybe only for singapore pools to win big hor...

but then at least people are happy to do so on a new year. even losing some money to your relatives is okay on a mahjong table. they call it a "once a year" event, sound so grand, maybe we can declare a public holiday, "mahjong day", where all the boss will give their workers a day off and add a "mahjong day" bonus into their salary as capital for this annual event. for me, i guess its back to yahoo mahjong for more tutorials and remedials le...

fwah, what nice tv programmes...

no shopping, no eating, no movies. all shops are closed for the new year. still remember going out with the JC guys one new year where all the restaurants are closed. we found no food to eat and in the end we had to go for hotel high class buffet dinner, which kinda cost us a bomb then. catch movie? i don't i don't, only 2am shows are available, all seats are fully booked. guess just have to settle with eating oily, chao-ta ba kwa infront of the tv watching how ekin cheng turns into a female and giving birth...
